ScreenStack takes the hundreds of screenshots in your camera roll and sorts them batch by batch, by why you saved them — so they come in, turn up, and get used. Below you'll find a quick start, answers to common questions, and troubleshooting tips. Can't find what you need? Just email us.

To help us track things down faster, please include:
- Your iOS / macOS version
- Your ScreenStack app version (shown at the bottom of the Settings page)
- A screenshot of the issue (if handy)
- Steps to reproduce: what you did, what you expected, and what actually happened
Quick start
- Bring your screenshots in. Once you grant access to the Screenshots album, the app pulls them in automatically and builds thumbnails. You can also send shots to ScreenStack from Photos or any app via the system Share menu, or batch-import them with an iOS Shortcut.
- Let it sort itself out. After import, on-device OCR runs and each shot is filed by intent into Important / Saved / Quick Grab / To Sort.
- Search and use. Search the box for a verification code, order number, Wi-Fi password, and other key details — find it instantly, tap once to copy.
- Clear with confidence. Drop the ones you don't need into the Trash; once you've double-checked, delete them for good — and the originals in your camera roll go too.
Frequently asked questions
How do I bring screenshots in?
Three ways: ① Auto-import from your library — grant access to the Screenshots album and they come in automatically; ② System Share — pick "ScreenStack" from the Share menu in any app; ③ Shortcuts — use an iOS Shortcut to batch-send screenshots to the app. Mix and match however you like.
How are screenshots sorted automatically?
The app files screenshots into four buckets by why you took them — Important, Saved, Quick Grab, To Sort. Each shot gets on-device OCR before it's filed, and you can re-sort anything by hand anytime.
How do I quickly find a verification code / order number / Wi-Fi password?
Local OCR reads the text in your screenshots and pulls out the key details (verification codes, order numbers, Wi-Fi passwords, and more). Just search for what you need, and tap a hit to copy it — no more scrolling the camera roll and pinch-zooming to read.
Can I get back a screenshot I deleted?
Yes. Before anything is deleted, you get a pre-delete receipt to confirm, and deleted items go to the Trash, where they can still be recovered. Only when you choose Delete permanently does the app call the system Photos delete API to remove the original from your camera roll — and the system asks you to confirm once more.
Do I have to add an AI key?
No. AI is an optional boost and works bring-your-own-key (BYOK): only if you choose to enter your own third-party AI API key in Settings will the app send OCR text off for finer sorting and field extraction — the original screenshots are never uploaded. Skip the key and every core feature still works in full.
Do I need an account? Where is my data stored?
No account, no sign-in. ScreenStack is local-first — all your data lives on your device (SwiftData). The app has no servers of its own and never sends your data back to us or to anyone else.
Which devices are supported?
Both iOS and native macOS, one shared experience.
Troubleshooting
- Screenshots didn't show up after import: Check that access to the Screenshots album is granted (Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → ScreenStack). New screenshots may also need a moment for on-device OCR to finish.
- A field isn't turning up in search: That screenshot's OCR may still be processing, or the original text is too blurry to read in full. Try opening the screenshot directly, or search with a different keyword.
- AI sorting isn't kicking in: Make sure you've entered a valid third-party AI API key in Settings and that the account has credit available. AI is enhancement only — it doesn't affect local OCR or search.
- Permanent delete didn't remove the camera-roll original: The system shows one more confirmation before deleting the original — make sure you tapped the system's confirm button.
