Short answer
Screenshot PRO is feature-rich: search the text inside screenshots, export text, tag them, add notes and links, lock with a passcode or Face ID, sync over iCloud, optionally remove screenshots from the camera roll automatically, with content kept only on the iPhone or iPad. But its own page says text search works only for Latin scripts, not Chinese, Arabic or Russian, and its interface is English, Italian or Spanish. If your screenshots are mostly Chinese that is the key difference; ScreenStack is built for Chinese screenshots and credentials, with free core features and a one-time Pro. For tags, notes, passcode lock and mostly Latin-script screenshots pick Screenshot PRO; for mostly Chinese screenshots and a receipt before deleting, pick ScreenStack. The differences at a glance
| Screenshot PRO | ScreenStack | |
|---|---|---|
| What it mainly does | Per its page: search text inside screenshots (Latin scripts only), export text, tags, favorites, shrink size, notes and links, passcode/Face ID lock, auto import at launch, optional auto-removal from the camera roll, iMessage sharing, multi-select | Manages the screenshots themselves: sorts by purpose (Important / Favorites / Casual / To sort), makes codes and order numbers searchable and copyable, shows a receipt before deleting; does not create notes |
| Platform and requirements | iPhone and iPad; iOS 17.6 or later; English, Italian, Spanish interface | iPhone only (iOS 17 or later), no Mac version |
| Price | Free to download in the US store; in-app purchases and subscriptions: not verified | Core features free, Pro is a one-time purchase (CN price 25 yuan; the price in the app applies) |
| Where data goes | The page says content is stored only on the iPhone/iPad, not in the cloud or on other servers; iCloud sync is optional | OCR, search and sorting on the device, originals never leave it; exceptions such as BYO-key AI and anonymous statistics are in its privacy policy |
| Text search languages (check date) | The page says it works only for Latin scripts and not for Chinese, Arabic or Russian | Apple Vision on-device OCR; try your own Chinese screenshots to judge results |

When to pick Screenshot PRO
- Your screenshots are mostly English, Italian or Spanish and you want tags, notes and a passcode lock.
- You want iCloud sync between your own devices and an iPad version.
- You like auto import at launch and the optional removal of screenshots from the camera roll.
When to pick ScreenStack
- Your screenshots are mostly Chinese and you need to find verification codes, order numbers and tracking numbers.
- You want a receipt before deleting and an in-app trash so mistakes can be recovered.
- You want a Chinese interface and a one-time-purchase Pro.
Limits of ScreenStack
- ScreenStack is iPhone only with no Mac version, and it does not create notes; to turn what is inside screenshots into expenses and to-dos, look at ScreenNote.
- Importing, sorting, on-device OCR search and basic cleanup are free forever; smart cleanup (grouping by visual similarity) and the credential wallet are Pro, a one-time purchase.
- Its scope is the screenshots themselves, not duplicate photos and large videos across the whole library.
Three things to test yourself before you commit
- Take 10 Chinese and 10 English screenshots and compare text search hit rates; Screenshot PRO's page already says Chinese is not supported.
- Before turning on automatic removal from the camera roll in Screenshot PRO, confirm you have a backup, then compare it with ScreenStack's receipt before deleting.
- Try the passcode lock: Screenshot PRO's page lists it, while ScreenStack's page does not mention one.
Moving over from Screenshot PRO, or using both
Screenshot PRO imports screenshots into its own library and its page does not describe a full export (not verified), though it says you can export the text of all screenshots, which you can paste into Notes. The originals are still in your photo library; install ScreenStack and grant photo access and they import incrementally with OCR. If you enabled automatic removal from the camera roll, make sure the originals still exist in Screenshot PRO before switching.
